Gosposvetska cesta street, 1937 (photographic library of the Upper Sava Valley Museum)
The “Memories of Old Jesenice Settlement” theme trail begins with an easy stroll along Murova. The architecture, customs and everyday lives of our ancestors are also visible in the street further south which once coexisted in harmony with Murova. This is the former Gosposvetska cesta street that used to run between the Kos Manor House and Korotan. The locals call the area covered by these two streets the Old Jesenice Settlement.

In the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century bloomeries, ironworks, and especially the railway significantly changed the image of this part of Jesenice and the entire Upper Sava Valley. Once separate settlements, Murova, Sava, Plavž and later Podmežakla and Slovenski Javornik merged in 1929 and formed what is now known as Jesenice. Back then, modern urban planning guidelines were not observed; instead, the town developed more or less according to the needs and wishes of the Jesenice ironworks and property owners.

Jesenice got its first public street system at the end of 1930. This is when Gosposvetska cesta street was introduced; it is one of the oldest streets and also one of the most often renamed streets in Jesenice. This was its name from 1930 to 1941 and also from 1945 to 1961. During the Third Reich’s occupation, it was named Adolf Hitlerstrasse, and it got its current name – Cesta maršala Tita street – in 1961.
